On what was a freezing Wednesday night at Lockleaze, Reading 1st’s powerfully dispatched the home side, who didn’t seem to warm into the game very well.
UWE began well, taking the lead through a 40 metre penalty kick from Oli Radford, but this is the only lead the home team had in the match.
The Reading domination then ensued as they scored 26 unanswered points before UWE’s try. The away team was able to quash almost every attempt by UWE to break through the wall of Reading players. They also showed their physical prowess by outrunning UWE down the flanks and being able to touch down for their tries under the posts.
Just before half time, UWE scored their try, with Alec O’Connor grounding to the left of the posts after a few minutes of pressure by the home team. Oli Radford stepped up again, converting the five points into seven.
The score at half time was UWE 10-26 Reading.
The onslaught by Reading continued after the break with two converted tries before the end of the game.
Unfortunately for UWE, they couldn’t get a foothold in the game despite showing a decent amount of patience and effort throughout.
The final score was UWE 10-40 Reading.
