UWE Bristol’s Women’s team secured an immensely dominant victory over the winless visiting Winchester side on Wednesday afternoon. This was the second time the two teams have met this season with UWE also winning the reverse fixture.
UWE Bristol got off to a great start with Leila Jepson opening the scoring in the early seconds. Kathryn Walker made it 4-0 before seven more Jepson points and five from Brigita Senutaite put UWE Bristol in a commanding 16-0 lead after just four minutes. A visiting free-throw made it 16-1 before two points each from Brigita Senutaite and Yi Tam and four from Gintare Tamulyte made it 25-1 at the end of the first quarter.
The second quarter was largely more of the same with Jepson scoring a free-throw and a three-pointer early on. Nicole Royal scored her first of the game before a visiting score made it 22-3. UWE Bristol continued their domination with Senutaite, Jepson, Maria Borjabad-Torres and Tamulyte adding to the score sheet. At half-time UWE led 47-9.
Despite the insurmountable lead, the visiting Winchester side didn’t give up, scoring the first two points of the second half. However UWE Bristol then hit back with seventeen points of their own, eight of which came from Jepson. At the end of the third quarter, UWE Bristol had extended their lead to 71-15.
Tamulyte got off to an explosive start in the fourth quarter, first running the length of the court to score before scoring four more points soon after. UWE Bristol continued to score the bulk of the points for the remainder of the game with the majority of their players adding their names to the score sheet.
At the end of the game, the final score was 92-22 to UWE Bristol, securing what was comfortably their biggest win of the season. This was UWE Bristol’s third win out of four this season. Next up for the UWE Jets is a home tie against Plymouth with UWE Bristol hoping to complete the double over the visitors after they beat them 73-58 on the road back in November.
