UWE Water Polo had a cracking weekend securing their first win of the season. Read on to get the full update from their coach, Rys Tamlyn.
‘Friday afternoon saw the team compete in an indoor gym challenge against UWE Jets Basketball club, organised by Centre for Sport Strength and Conditioning coach, Craig McLeod. Both teams took part in a great gym session consisting of station based activities and then competed in four head to head races. The final score was 2-2 with a rooky game of Rock Paper Scissors to decide; so although the Jet’s theoretically won, as this was a land based test, Water Polo definitely claim the moral victory! We’re also planning on getting the basket ballers down to the pool soon to show them the Water Polo ropes, as it were.
Our first ever Men’s 2nd team had long drive to their BUCS game against Plymouth on Saturday night so they were extra motivated to win. Despite having 5 first time players on the team and playing away from their normal territory, the team managed to win with an amazing score of 12-4 which is great news looking forward to the season ahead.
Sunday 30th October sees a double header for the club with both the Women’s and Men’s 2nd teams play Aberystwyth at Bristol University Pool. These games will again see many new players to the sport and hopefully a win for the Women’s team.’
It’s always good for teams of any sport to get support, so if you’re free next weekend, head to the Bristol Uni pool to cheer on the Women’s and Men’s teams (Sunday 30th, 2.30 and 3.30 pm).
